Glock 10mm Long Slide - The Glock 40 Gen4 is chambered at 10mm and has a full 6" barrel for better speed. The G40 Gen 4 is a powerful yet easy-to-carry pistol; perfect for the outdoorsman, hunter or sport shooter. It was designed to offer the handgun hunter the best choice in a semi-automatic handgun and has proven more than capable of taking down game such as white-tailed deer, hogs and wild boar. Glock engineers developed the Glock Modular Optics System (MOS) to facilitate the installation of common optics without expensive custom pistol slide machining. MOS is offered with a blanking plate when no optics are installed, and with four plate options to meet specifications from some of the industry's most trusted optics manufacturers. MOS gives you the option to add a high visor that allows the optical and visor to be seen together.

A ridiculous amount of handguns for most everyday users, and you wouldn't normally drive one into town. It's just difficult to use. But there's a reason F350s are made, because there are users who know what they need to get the job done big. This can be heavy loads, long-distance hauling, or just *ss hauling.
The G40 Gen4 in MOS configuration is chambered at 10mm and houses a full 6" barrel for improved speed with a 15-round magazine capacity. The G40 Gen4 in MOS configuration is a powerful but easy-to-carry pistol; perfect for outdoorsmen, hunters and sport shooters. It was designed to give hunters the best option in a semi-automatic wildgun and has proven to be more than capable of taking down game such as white-tailed deer, Russian wild boar and even wild boar.
The new Glock pistol case is a big step up, but I think the G40 has surpassed it. When opened, the case almost fell apart due to its contents. It all comes back to case, just make sure you learn the Tetris skills from someone.
Glock 40 Mos Long Slide 10mm, 6\
I was expecting the Glock to be heavier given its size, but it's a gentle giant at just over 28 ounces. Well, I wouldn't even call it graceful for its size. Unloaded, the gun is front-heavy due to the long slide, but when the magazine is inserted it begins to level out (about 40 ounces). As long as the red dot is up, I find it perfectly neutral for extended shoots.
The grip itself is enormous. If you have small hands, you don't have to put on a strap, even if you don't have a back strap. My wife, who can hold a medium sized G17 9mm back strap reasonably well, found it difficult to get a firm grip and pull the trigger at the same time. My medium-sized hands find the smallest setting most comfortable, but the middle back strap the most reassuring as I tend to gun high and get bitten by the slide. Unlike Glock's other competition-oriented pistols, the G40 does not have an extended slide stop.
I'm sure it'll be mentioned a few more times, but for reference purposes it's a Glock Gen 4. The grips include a finger cluster (which works for me), a square textured grip pattern (which I like too), larger, and reversible . Magazine release and too shallow an undercut on the trigger guard for the middle finger. It comes standard with an adjustable Glock rear sight (which works but is awful) and interestingly the rear sight actually hangs off the back of the slide a bit. I'm not sure if this is a technical oversight, but it's annoying for "perfection".
The MOS system or "Modular Optical System" is the newest and I found a surprising addition to the Glock family. Introduced with the G40 and its smaller 9mm/0.40 sibling, it is an optical mount that clips into the slide from the factory. This is by no means innovative, as the aftermarket has been doing for years, but it makes sense and actually helps "perfection" to perfection.

Author's Note: It is disappointing that Pride Fowler's separately supplied PFI optics are not compatible with the MOS system. When adjusted for one of the patterns, the optic sits too far forward to actually sit in the gun slide as intended. I got a Trijicon Mini Dot to test the MOS system (not pictured).
Typically, those who want this functionality have to either buy an aftermarket slide, send it in for milling, or use an adapter plate that raises the optics. If this is done in the rental factory, it has at least some advantages. Once loaded into the milling machine, it's easy and inexpensive to add cuts, the cut area can be coated rather than left blank, and ensures tighter tolerances than separate machine loads.
The MOS mounting area is directly in front of the adjustable rear sight. It is shipped with a flush and profiled plate to match the rail. The mix is excellent and only those with solid eyesight or who hold a firearm up close will notice that she can accept the optics. The plate is held in place with two Torx head screws and can be easily removed to mount the optics. The adapter plate is mounted on the slide and the selected optics on the adapter plate. Voila.
Once installed, it raises another complaint. The factory scene is too low for any kind of shared witnessing. Given the expense of injection molding, this is another oversight by Glock. I know there are many aftermarket systems out there, but at least Glock can make an effort.
Glock 41 Longslide .45
If you've shot a 10mm before, there's nothing really remarkable about the Glock's performance. To me, this cartridge is just like its .40 S&W daughter. Recoil is a bit jerky, which is absorbed by the dual springs and heavier slide, but it's not so much that I can make another heel.
Accuracy is still normal for my skill level with a Glock, but the longer sight radius helps narrow it down a bit, to just over 1.5" at 15 yards (Freedom Munitions 180 grain RNFP) with iron tips (I usually shoot around 2") with the G19). . By adding an optic (provided by PFI - detailed review follows later) I was able to further narrow it down and shoot 2.0″ at 25 yards.
As with almost every review written on the Glock, the trigger is long, squishy, and a solid Glock. I'm not a fan of this one, however, as Glock chose to omit the serrations found on most other pistols. This underscores the passive safety, which after about three magazines actually started causing discomfort in my trigger finger. After 100 laps I really hated it. Of course, individual preferences will prevail these days, but this is a Glock that I feel needs an aftermarket booger switch.
Aside from the trigger, the MOS system really shines on the gun. True to the intended purpose of Glocks, the addition of optics makes this pistol a "long range" pistol with real hunting potential. For older points or faster aiming at moving targets, the red dot on the weapon will glow. With an excellent trigger control or better trigger switch, the G40 Glocks can and does live up to its claim of being an excellent hunting pistol.
G20 Long Slide/g40 Mos Comparison
However, I would note that handloading is required to take maximum advantage of the longer barrel. Factory 10mm loads are typically "castrated"
Author's Note: Although Glock specifically discourages this practice, shooting a .40 S&W through a 10mm is just as possible, if not more fun
